indieguerillas
indieguerillas is an artist duo from Yogyakarta, Indonesia, comprising of husband and wife Dyatmiko Lancur Bawono (b. 1975) and Sant Ariestyowant (b. 1977). Founded in 1999 as a graphic design firm, indieguerillas’s philosophy of “constantly in guerrilla to find new possibilities” led them to become full-time artists in 2007. Nevertheless, design still plays a very important role in their practice as it allows them to explore the use of unconventional mediums and techniques as part of their artistic statement. In addition to their proficiency at visual effects and inter-media experimentation, their works are also recognised for its folklore influences. The unique intertwinement between traditional values and contemporary culture has brought indieguerillas to numerous important exhibitions around the globe, most recently “Datang Untuk Kembali”, a performance made in collaboration with fashion designer Lulu Lutfi Labibi and sound director Ari Wulu, as a part of CITIES FOR PEOPLE NTU CCA Idea Fest 2016/17 at NTU Centre for Contemporary Art Singapore. Some of their selected solo exhibitions include _hyP3<y<lu5_, Mizuma Gallery, Singapore (2017), The Prefabricated Faith, Project Room, Gillman Barracks, Singapore (2012), Indie what?
